Company History

2013

  • The idea was born – A modular low energy airless recycling technology able to deliver pure material streams with minimal SAP cross-linker damage.
  • Generation 1 (G1) system (1:10 scale) was built to test the new process concept.
  • The G2 was built. A larger 1:5 scale with enhanced process features.

2014

  • A full-scale G3 was built, commissioned @ 50 KG / hour, and used as an R&D test platform to achieve full-scale process learnings. This was the first full-scale commissioned pulp & plastic separation process to gain longer run experience based on multiple customer products.

2015

  • G4 design started and was shortly terminated due to new significant process learnings generated by R&D team on G3 platform. The design of the G5 platform began with a new layout configuration. ​
  • The G5 platform was built and incorporated low energy process additions and new plug & play modular design interface technology. The G5 was also used as a R&D test platform for a new gentle SAP extraction technology.
  • The G6 platform was built incorporating all the process learnings made by the R&D team to date, including step enhancements to the pulp metering technology and enhancements to reduce the operator cleaning effort. Equipment upgrades were made to boost processing capacity, and optional extras were also added such as fire-fly and pulp vision technology.

2016

  • In January, the design started for G7.
  • In March, Diaper Recycling Technology won the 2016 EDANA Innovation Award. ​
  • In May, the Diaper Recycling Technology won the 2016 INDA Achievement Award. ​
  • In July, development of a new separation technology was completed adding a stage in the G7 platform.  This resulted to further 23% energy reduction while reducing SAP damage and achieving higher pulp purities.
  • In September, a dedicated process starts to develop new SAP extraction technologies specifically designed to remove SAP glued within the diaper core using Micro-Fiber technology.

2017

  • In February, the 50-100 kg per hour – low capacity equipment platform was announced. ​
  • In April, the 0-50 kg per hour – low capacity equipment platform was announced. ​
  • In May, new features were added to the G7 platform. It automatically adjusts process dwell time on HMI panel view for 100 kg per hour and above equipment platforms.​
  • In June, Unicharm announced the purchase of Diaper Recycling Technology G7 platform.
  • In December, production of Unicharm G7 began.​

2018

  • In February, Diaper Recycling Technology restructured and became a subsidiary of Environmental Technology Singapore group with a total paid-up capital of 16,000,000 SGD.
  • In May, R&D started to integrate SMED principles for quicker machine access and size changeovers. ​
  • In July, R&D started coating development to enable 24/7 uninterrupted operation without contamination build-up. ​
  • In August, R&D started pulp scanning technology to bring pulp purity from 99.5% to 99.999%. ​
  • In July, Diaper Recycling Technology was nominated in the Singaporean Emerging-Enterprise Award.
  • In November, add-on pulp extraction process was developed to extract up to 99.95% of pulp from the plastic stream.
  • In December, concept design started for Gen 8 after extensive testing of G7.

2019

  • In January, R&D started for fem-care customers. A dedicated new process was developed to separate silicon release paper from a mixed paper and plastic stream. The technology negates the need to dumping costs allowing the paper to be bailed and plastic to be pelletized.​
  • In February, R&D started on plastic stream purification work to support customers operating with tissue core wrap, but still wishing to pelletize their plastic waste stream to achieve optimum selling price points. ​
  • In March, pulp scanning technology was launched at IDEA Expo in Miami. The process utilizes over 40 integrated cameras to scan fibre stream and to automatically detect and reject any unwanted contaminants in the pulp stream such as disposable earplugs.​
  • In April, automated diaper supply technology was developed with MOQ 1 capability, allowing a continuous infeed diaper stream of individual diapers to be supplied to the downstream recycling processes. ​
  • In May, automated SAP purification with flow and moisture control technology was launched. ​
  • In August, after extensive testing and co-working with market-leading polymer producers, polymer resin formulations were launched to enable mixed PE/PP plastic trim waste to achieve selling prices of up to 1000 USD per ton. ​
  • In June, G7 passed Unicharm factory acceptance tests and was shipped in August. ​
  • In November, detailed design work began on DRT’s final G8 production system. G8 was hailed as the company’s flagship model encompassing all engineering processes and learnings from the entire development cycle.
  • In December, planning started to expand Singapore production facilities to allow production of multiple machines in parallel, as well as expansion of Johor Bahru facility.

2020

  • In January, Diaper Recycling Technology was selected as nominee in INDEX 20 awards under-sustainable process or management practice category.
  • In February, further to a specific customer request, updates to the G8 design began increasing capacity throughput of the 200-400 KG/Hour machine up to 600 KG/Hour without increasing footprint size.
  • In March, Diaper Recycling Technology restructured parts of the organization in response to COVID-19 involving large number of employees working from home.
  • In May, Diaper Recycling Technology announced the launch of pulp gravimetric feed technology allowing accurate re-feed of pulp on a gram by gram basis back into the core-former process.
  • In June, G8 production started (200-400 KG/Hour platform).
  • In August, Diaper Recycling Technology announced the start of a state-of-the-art recycling demonstration facility in Singapore with start-up planned in Q1-2021.
